They usually give you cookie-cutter advice by saying to ‘write about your passions’, ‘stay consistent’, or anything else that is vague and not applicable.Once you have enough traffic on your blog, you can generate an income by using different methods like affiliate programs, Google AdSense, online courses, podcasting or selling digital products. The best way for you to start making money off your blog as soon as possible is to stop doubting your abilities. There’s a lot of bad advice out there and too many people skimp on the basics. To make real progress, you need to start thinking like a CEO and create systems that will help you scale like an entrepreneur, not a hobbyist.A lot of blogging advice is actually not helpful. You’ve sold the idea that it’s possible to make money online and have a job, all while an ( 95%) overwhelming amount of bloggers fail. Many of these “experts” that started 10+ years ago are also making ridiculous assumptions based off their own personal experience. So I started this blog in 2020 to share my experience as a new blogger and share what I learned in the startup world.Find here the first thing I learned – you’re a business owner, not just a blogger. To scale your blog quickly, you need to focus on creating systems, rather than writing.I know that starting a blog can be really daunting, but I hope this list of things I wish I knew before I started my blog gives you some useful ideas. This guide will cover the fundamentals of blogging, including SEO, keywords, content marketing, WordPress and affiliate marketing so that your blog can make more money. Now let’s just start. How to Make Money by Blogging in 2022?There are a lot of ways to in how to start a blog, but the first step needs to be buying domain and web hosting.I recommend SiteGround or Hostinger because they’re recommended by WordPress and offer features that accommodate everything you might need as you grow your new blog. How to make money as a blogger – we won’t waste your time with outdated income streams. This article will only talk about what you really need to know, like affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, online courses and advertising.Instead of doing that, let’s focus on scaling your blog like a startup. In order to do this, you need to choose your niche, scale the content and monetise it effectively. Last but not least, we will see how we can ensure the site continues to grow and make a passive income from it.Let’s focus on scaling your new blog.Choose Your Blog’s Niche.“Based on Market Factors, Not Your Passions”If you want to succeed as a blogger, it is important to understand that 95% of bloggers fail not because they are not passionate enough.Push past the pain, they say. When you google “why bloggers fail”, the 1 result is a popular answer telling you that bloggers usually fail because they aren’t dedicated enough.I completely reject this notion. – I believe that any business can significantly increase their chances of success by assessing, in detail, the viability of the services they offer. For example, I am passionate about a lot of things: race cars, airplanes, traveling and astronomy. But how many people are equally passionate about these subjects? Is there really so much demand to justify my starting one more blog to discuss these things. – What if I wrote an endless amount of blog posts about one of those topics, making no money in the process?New bloggers can sometimes dedicate themselves too much to a single topic and end up not being able to write blog posts coherently after a while. Many bloggers say that blogging is “just a hobby” and for some of them, it’s true. Hobby bloggers are typically new to the blog scene and don’t know much about making money through their blogs. In almost any creative field – from web-development to photography to copywriting and video editing – beginners and experts both exist. Most bloggers that start out because they’re passionate about a topic and decide to figure the rest of it out as they go. They are already destined to fail in one way or another. There’s a lot of bad advice out there on how to start blogging and it’s up to you to evaluate it. This kind of advice is mostly for rankings on Google than adding anything valuable.Bloggers don’t fail because of the passion they have for blogging. They usually fail because they can’t make the transition from being the blog writer to running a business successfully. So they’ve aimed to create blogs with a narrow target niche that appeals to a low-value audience.A big mistake many new bloggers make is failing to adopt networking and connections into their strategic approach. This is made worse by their targeting of an audience whose demand isn’t sufficient enough for them to generate large traffic volumes.“I want you to succeed.”Before starting your blog, it is important to define your niche based on business factors like: audience, budget potential and market demand rather than following your passions.#1. Audience Budget Potential. To offer a valuable product or service on your blog, you need to solve a problem that your readers are experiencing. This is self-explanatory as the blogger should know their target audience well, so that they know what problems they need to address. But don’t think that simple list of 100 niches is the way to do it. You should try narrowing it down by hand up to a particular point.Watercolors? K-Pop? Travelling? If you take your time, you’ll end up with much more balanced interests than simply relying on a list.#What is the first most important factor when choosing your blog’s niche? One of the most important factors when choosing your blog’s niche is to find a topic that you are passionate and knowledgeable about. It will be much easier for you to create content for this area, which will provide visitors with access to valuable information.#How much your audience is willing to spend. The amount that your audience is willing to spend on content varies depending on a few factors. Factors such as age, income, and general interest level are crucial in determining a good price point for your content. It is that simple. Let’s break it down. One way to attract visitors to your blog is through content. If you’re starting a blog about home design, the trending news, and how-to guides may be popular. Some of our visitors could be interior designers, college students in the design major, or mothers staying at home that are always looking for the latest on home decor trends. To monetize a niche you should create a new blog and move your readers through the sales funnel:First of all, you need to create content that will appeal to your target audience.Once you have built out a home design “freebie” you can use it as an incentive for people to sign up to your email list.As a next step, you could use affiliate marketing to promote home decor brands. This will help you earn money while driving traffic and increasing brand awareness. As a way of saying thank you for subscribing, we are offering a $200 online course to all of our subscribers. It will show them 10 Expert Interior Design Tips for the Perfect Home! This seems like the logical approach and is generally what bloggers do. You can earn passive income in a few years after building up an audience. But is it enough to attract a large audience and make money? The typical stay-at-home mom, college student, and professionals who earn an average salary?Building a niche blog can be done rather quickly and will open up more money-making opportunities. The trick is to change one word. For example, from ‘home design’ to ‘retail design’ is a simple way to increase your chances of boosting income 100x.Here’s why: By creating a B2B component to your blog, you are shifting your audience from individuals to businesses. This has the potential to increase your blog income by 100x.This should be a no-brainer. If you’re selling to large companies, you’ll make more money because of these two reasons. First, they have more funds available. Second, they are spending less money out of their own pockets. Source: imab2b.comYou can easily adjust the design of your blog to cater to both B2C (designer & decor) and B2B (architect) audiences. These niches are so close that you can even use a single content strategy, sales funnel, and launch for both!Good news: the B2C “home design” niche doesn’t just stop at a $200 course. The B2B “retail design” market thrives and continues to go strong. After you build your professional brand, you become known as a B2B design expert. This influence allows your price to jump from a $10 affiliate commission or a $200 course – to a $2,000/month recurring consulting service.Once you’ve strengthened your brand, you become known as a B2B design expert. This leads to an increase in price as clients recognise your true expertise. You’ll no longer be limited to $10 affiliate commissions or $200 courses – rather, larger clients will want your services and offer a hefty recurring monthly consulting fee. Source: Datapine.comWhen thinking about starting a blog of your own, don’t make the mistake of worrying about what you enjoy doing most and trying to get thousands of low value readers online.Focus on finding which products or services are in high demand and try to find just a few quality clients. As I hope you can now understand, this approach means that it’s possible to make a decent passive income with your blog.#2. Use your professional leverage to choose a blog’s niche. After identifying a lucrative audience to provide value to, the next step is to think about your potential strategic advantages over others.Ask yourself:What is your current level of professional experience?Where are my connections in the industry? Is it worth turning this experience into a profitable blog?If I had an opportunity to do a guest post for any website, which one would you feel would be the most accommodating and would offer a beneficial partnership to get me started? To build a successful blog, you’ll need to build your influence. To become an expert in your field and build authority, it’s important to have the courage to get outside of your comfort zone and use everything you’ve got.You will also be completing a significant amount of outreach in order to make connections with new prospects. This is essential for anyone who would like to be the best in their industry, as it opens up a world of opportunities that simply would not exist without strong networking skills. One way to do outreach is by building relationships with your blog’s influencers. By creating a guest post for an authority site in the same industry, you can make a large impact on your niche. These blog posts could provide you with high Domain Authority (DA) backlinks for SEO, which can be a good way to rise in Google’s search results.Broadband Search’s recent statistics show that Google processes almost 3.5 billion searches per day, which is about 40,000 per second. There’s plenty of room for other players to capture a share of the market. It’s hard when you are starting out to have any connections in the field or published content. You might think “Why would anyone want to feature me?” The answer is your background. For example, a photographer might have a base of clients, peers from local MeetUp events, or even know influential photographers they met in the past.If you can leverage these contacts in the future, you may be able to spread word about your blogging business and get business much quicker.#3. Market Demand is a Necessity of Niche Success. This is a no-brainer, but before you start on your content project, it’s important to find out if people are actually searching for topics related to what you want to write about – and they are monetizable. Two of the more popular monetizable keywords types are “best list blog posts” and “how-to guides.”These two main types of keywords have the most affiliate marketing revenue potential. These two main keywords are responsible for the most affiliate marketing revenue. For example, for blogs posts such as the “best” list posts. In the travel industry, I’d say this is “best travel backpack“ or “best travel insurance“In finance, you might want to look into the “best Roth IRA“ or the “best savings accounts.“Tech reviews could be about the “best PS5 exclusives“ or the “best VR headsets.“Searching for the “best” anything has become the norm and people often do it using long-form guides written by some of your fellow bloggers. Most of these guides come with affiliate programs for advertising, which means you can make money while doing what you love! For example, “how-to” guides could include:In marketing, how can I make a blog/website.In lifestyle, how to decorate your living room.In health, how to treat acne. These how-to guides are top quality tutorials with high quality content. And you can easily include affiliate links in there without having to worry about it being seen as spam.Once you have identified your personal strengths and passions, pick a niche to focus on, and come up with 10 keywords related to that niche.Next, use a keyword research tool like Ubersuggest, SEMRush, Ahrefs, GrowthBar or Google Keyword Planner, and enter your keywords.Below are some tips for you to keep in mind while doing keyword research. If you are targeting with your top 5 keywords with search volumes of 5,000 or more, this demonstrates that users are interested in these topics. This is an example of my target keyword from this blog post: Work out how hard it will be to rank for the keyword by looking at its keyword difficulty score. This score can be anywhere from 0-100 on a scale of how difficult it will be to rank for the keyword, so a higher number is going to mean it’s more difficult and vice versa. If your keywords have a difficulty score of 80 or higher, it may be too difficult for you to rank for that keyword. The best keywords to go after have over 2,000 monthly search volume with a 50 or less difficulty score. This will allow you to gain traffic when you least expect it.Checking out the competition can be accomplished by using an SEO tool, like Ubersuggest to see the data from SERPs.Specifically, look for information about Domain Rating (DR) and the SERP position history of page 1 results. If the top 10 results all have a DR over 70, you will not be able to rank your new blog with a DR of 0 on page one and thus will get little traffic. If you see a site with a DR under 50 ranked on page one, it’s likely that you can easily surpass them in the search rankings if you keep posting compelling content. If that SERP has not moved for the last 6 months, there are many chances possible. One being that positions 1 – 5 have not changed over time and are locked into those spots. Competition is fierce in these cases and it may be difficult to have success. To recap, when researching your website’s market demand, try to research topics that have keywords with:Over 2,000 searche volume / monthly.A keyword SEO difficulty score under 50.One of the first sites that appears on Google has a DR under 50 SEO difficulty score.A SERP history that has been updated recently. In summary, it is highly recommended to focus as much as possible on keyword research in order to be able to write a blog that targets only one keyword. It’s also crucial to choose your niche based both on the audience’s budget potential and market demand.Find a target audience and understand their challenges on a more personal level. Make sure you’re providing B2B services to them and will be able to be rewarded for those efforts.Utilize your network, previous work experience, and every other asset you have to your advantage. After all, passion doesn’t lead to money; instead, money leads to passion.Ready to get started? Try SiteGround. But you need to remember that as an owner, there are a wide variety of tasks you need to be taking care of.From days 0 to 90, the most important thing you should do is read. I’ve already given a lot of outdated advice before so I won’t say the same here.I refuse to share my thoughts on how to write about your passions, or when and where you should be writing. I also won’t mention any tips for how to keep going with a consistent schedule.Instead of scaling your blog like a traditional company and investing time on an area that will take you years to establish credibility in, we’re going to scale your blog with a startup mentality. This will allow you to build up that credibility much faster. One way to ensure your content is targeted and personalized is to get help. Rather than writing every single first draft yourself, you can use a site like Fiverr and find an experienced writer. There are many blog post writers who can take care of everything for you. You can focus on editing, publishing, and link building for your articles.Overall, there are five main components to this process:OutreachGuest PostOutsourceBacklinksRepeat indefinitelyIf you’re a blogger that only wants to focus on writing and such aspects, stop reading here. But if you’re interested in how to grow your blog like a CEO (and not just as a hobby blogger), let’s move on.#1. Relationships Are Your Foundation.Creating high-quality content for other bloggers and influencers in your niche is a good way to start generating relationships. The key is to always value them and provide something worth their time. It’s easy to forget your goal when building relationships, but it needs to be a two-way street. Commit yourself to giving more than you receive and you should be rewarded with the strong relationships you deserve.Think about: what value are you giving?Could you help provide some content as your expertise matches their audience’s interests? They have a blog that needs new content to fill their editorial calendar?Would you be able to put links in some other guest posts you’re writing to help them rank?If there is a topic that you are qualified to speak on but isn’t exist on their blog?Understand the value of your pitch and how to help out. Use this information to create a structured email outreach strategy.Start by creating a list of websites.Once you have a true sense of your expertise, it’s time to start to build out your blog outreach list. This should be a simple spreadsheet with five columns: website, name, email address, status etc.To populate a list of target blogs, take note of the monthly visitors and DA rating for each blog. Aim to target websites with a DA rating of 50+.Keep in mind that the more the DA, the stronger your partnership potential and SEO impact will be.To save a lot of time researching guest posting, check out the post with top blogs and websites accepting articles with Domain Authority scores.Once you have chosen from a list of blogs based on the criteria I mentioned beforehand, it’s time to find the right person to contact. You could start by using Linkedin. To filter your search results, use the company page of the website you’re interested in.From there, look for people by typing in keywords like “content manager,” “SEO Manager,” or “editor.” If you know that person’s name, you can also try typing it in to see if they’re a member of your networkWhen looking for LinkedIn connections, start with 2nd degree connections. If you don’t know anyone, try to find an intersection point with mutual acquaintances/colleagues.Make sure to keep your connection message short and sweet too. Your message may get buried if it’s too long or comes off as spammy.Once you reach out to someone on LinkedIn, use an email tool like Hunter.io to search for their contact information.Even if you can’t find the contact’s email address, Hunter.io displays a handy template of your email structure, such as firstname.lastname@example.org . Add this information to your spreadsheet.#2. Start Blogging Relationships.( Pitch Guest Posts at the Same Time).Good relationships with bloggers are pretty important. If you have a list of potential contacts, it may be time to reach out to them using LinkedIn.Once you’ve contacted 50-100 people, it makes sense to do some email outreach. You can grow your guest blogging strategy by creating an email template and then sending it to other bloggers with the intention of inviting them to post for you. Here’s an example of the template that I’ve been using:Hi ,I am Sebastian, I’m the writer and content manager of this blog. I love your blog, (TargetBlog), and am interested in being a guest writer for you.I was curious if:1) You may want to consider using guest posting as a link building tactic. I write (X-X) guest posts per month and would be happy to link back to your site in my content.2) Do you allow guest posts on your blog?I would be very happy to contribute to your blog. I am not sure what you want though, so I will pitch some topics below that I think the audience might enjoy. These are some samples of my work that you can refer to as well.(Sample 1 URL)(Sample 2 URL)(Sample 3 URL)I hope you are interested. Please let me know if so, and I’ll look forward to hearing back from you soon! Thanks, M.SebastianThe benefits of using a template when emailing for guest posts are multifaceted. They can save you time, help you scale your outreach process by having the email pitch, and take the time to build a relationship with the blogger.Once a publisher you’re reaching out to responds and indicates they are interested in your guest post idea, come up with a good topic for it.Guest blogging is an effective way to get your brand in front of a new audience, which can help you increase your visibility and customer acquisition.Guest blogging encompasses four main points:The topic of your post doesn’t seem to exist on their site. Before you start working on a post, type “site:blog.com topic” into Google to check if there are already posts about it.Your topic and SEO keywords are bringing you organic traffic. Check keywords in Ubersuggest, see which ones drive the most organic traffic to your site and look for gaps in their content. You can fix them with a blog post! This is a topic you’re well-versed in! You should be able to produce a high-quality article on this subject. The guest blog will also help you increase visibility in your niche. The topic interest for the audience. It’s worth checking their editorial guidelines, and taking a look at their blog posts to match the style.Once your guest post is accepted, you can move on to implementing your guest blogging strategy.#3. The Importance of Guest Blogging.Guest posting for high-DA sites can still help with a new blog’s SEO, given 65% of marketers say link building is the toughest tactic to master. It can also be the most rewarding. That’s why I recommend launching a blog with 5 “pillar posts” – long-form, SEO-optimized articles created for inbound links. Add statistics, infographics and case studies to make the linking process easier.Even though my blog is getting older, I still try to put in one guest post for every post I write. Focusing more on the business & relationship aspects of blogging and less on the writing is a good mindset to have when you are first starting out.The quality of your guest posts’ headlines, paragraphs and links is important. Make sure they’re in order when you post your content for readers to follow.Follow the guest post guidelines closely and make sure your grammar is up to scratch with one of the best grammar checker tools before you share anything else.#4. How to Monetize your Blog the Right Way.It’s possible to make money from blogging at many different levels, with many different strategies. Some popular ones are affiliate marketing, running some ads, doing paid endorsements (either on your homepage or via individual posts), running a course or coaching service and offering sponsored posts. Some of these monetization strategies require more traffic than others. That’s why making a plan for your future revenue-driving strategy is super important. You need to know where in your blog lifecycle certain types of monetization are needed.Plan Your Future Blog Monetization Timeline. For instance, if you created a new travel blog recently, it wouldn’t make sense to populate it with ads straightaway. It only makes sense for strategies like this to work when you have a lots of decent monthly visitors.Same goes for affiliate marketing – starters should ease in and not start dropping posts with links right away. Rather, you should focus on creating a valued platform and then promote your posts.Only after a few thousand visitors will you see any significant return from this sort of strategy. It can take a while to earn enough money from affiliate marketing, courses, ad revenue, and digital products to enable you to quit your day job. Car mechanics, financial services, real estate sites- none of them have updated their look in decades. They might only get a few hundred visits/month, but their site enables them to serve a niche market & turn a profit because they offer high-end services. You should start your blog by making sure to fill a need in the market. You can also make sure it is something new that people are not already aware of.Your early focus with this blog isn’t about posting a bunch of low-quality posts. Instead, put effort into creating five pillar posts, a consulting page and making your sales process more refined. This will attract new readers & save you time in the future.#6. Your home or start here page and blog posts should also link back to your consulting page so that people who visit find it easier to hire you.And when you contribute guest articles you should include a link to this article in your biography.#7.
