Push past the pain, they say. When you google “why bloggers fail”, the 1 result is a popular answer telling you that bloggers usually fail because they aren’t dedicated enough.

I completely reject this notion.

 – I believe that any business can significantly increase their chances of success by assessing, in detail, the viability of the services they offer.

For example, I am passionate about a lot of things: race cars, airplanes, traveling and astronomy. But how many people are equally passionate about these subjects?

Is there really so much demand to justify my starting one more blog to discuss these things.

 – What if I wrote an endless amount of blog posts about one of those topics, making no money in the process?

New bloggers can sometimes dedicate themselves too much to a single topic and end up not being able to write blog posts coherently after a while.

Many bloggers say that blogging is “just a hobby” and for some of them, it’s true. Hobby bloggers are typically new to the blog scene and don’t know much about making money through their blogs.

In almost any creative field – from web-development to photography to copywriting and video editing – beginners and experts both exist.

Most bloggers that start out because they’re passionate about a topic and decide to figure the rest of it out as they go. They are already destined to fail in one way or another.


There’s a lot of bad advice out there on how to start blogging and it’s up to you to evaluate it. This kind of advice is mostly for rankings on Google than adding anything valuable.

Two of the more popular monetizable keywords types are “best list blog posts” and “how-to guides.”

These two main types of keywords have the most affiliate marketing revenue potential.

For example, for blogs posts such as the “best” list posts.

  • In the travel industry, I’d say this is “best travel backpack“ or “best travel insurance“
  • In finance, you might want to look into the “best Roth IRA“ or the “best savings accounts.“
  • Tech reviews could be about the “best PS5 exclusives“ or the “best VR headsets.“

Searching for the “best” anything has become the norm and people often do it using long-form guides written by some of your fellow bloggers.

Most of these guides come with affiliate programs for advertising, which means you can make money while doing what you love!

For example, “how-to” guides could include:

  • In marketing, how can I make a blog/website.
  • In lifestyle, how to decorate your living room.
  • In health, how to treat acne.

These how-to guides are top quality tutorials with high quality content. And you can easily include affiliate links in there without having to worry about it being seen as spam.

Once you have identified your personal strengths and passions, pick a niche to focus on, and come up with 10 keywords related to that niche.

Next, use a keyword research tool like UbersuggestSEMRush, Ahrefs, GrowthBar or Google Keyword Planner, and enter your keywords.

Below are some tips for you to keep in mind while doing keyword research.

If you are targeting with your top 5 keywords with search volumes of 5,000 or more, this demonstrates that users are interested in these topics.

Work out how hard it will be to rank for the keyword by looking at its keyword difficulty score.

This score can be anywhere from 0-100 on a scale of how difficult it will be to rank for the keyword, so a higher number is going to mean it’s more difficult and vice versa.

If your keywords have a difficulty score of 80 or higher, it may be too difficult for you to rank for that keyword.

The best keywords to go after have over 2,000 monthly search volume with a 50 or less difficulty score. This will allow you to gain traffic when you least expect it.

Checking out the competition can be accomplished by using an SEO tool, like Ubersuggest to see the data from SERPs.

Specifically, look for information about Domain Rating (DR) and the SERP position history of page 1 results.

If the top 10 results all have a DR over 70, you will not be able to rank your new blog with a DR of 0 on page one and thus will get little traffic.

If you see a site with a DR under 50 ranked on page one, it’s likely that you can easily surpass them in the search rankings if you keep posting compelling content.

If that SERP has not moved for the last 6 months, there are many chances possible.

One being that positions 1 – 5 have not changed over time and are locked into those spots. Competition is fierce in these cases and it may be difficult to have success.

To recap, when researching your website’s market demand, try to research topics that have keywords with:

  • Over 2,000 searche volume / monthly.
  • A keyword SEO difficulty score under 50.
  • One of the first sites that appears on Google has a DR under 50 SEO difficulty score.
  • A SERP history that has been updated recently.

In summary, it is highly recommended to focus as much as possible on keyword research in order to be able to write a blog that targets only one keyword. It’s also crucial to choose your niche based both on the audience’s budget potential and market demand.

Find a target audience and understand their challenges on a more personal level. Make sure you’re providing B2B services to them and will be able to be rewarded for those efforts.

Utilize your network, previous work experience, and every other asset you have to your advantage. After all, passion doesn’t lead to money; instead, money leads to passion.

I refuse to share my thoughts on how to write about your passions, or when and where you should be writing. I also won’t mention any tips for how to keep going with a consistent schedule.

Instead of scaling your blog like a traditional company and investing time on an area that will take you years to establish credibility in, we’re going to scale your blog with a startup mentality. This will allow you to build up that credibility much faster.

One way to ensure your content is targeted and personalized is to get help. Rather than writing every single first draft yourself, you can use a site like Fiverr and find an experienced writer.

There are many blog post writers who can take care of everything for you. You can focus on editing, publishing, and link building for your articles.

Overall, there are five main components to this process:

It’s easy to forget your goal when building relationships, but it needs to be a two-way street. Commit yourself to giving more than you receive and you should be rewarded with the strong relationships you deserve.

Think about: what value are you giving?

  • Could you help provide some content as your expertise matches their audience’s interests?
  • They have a blog that needs new content to fill their editorial calendar?
  • Would you be able to put links in some other guest posts you’re writing to help them rank?
  • If there is a topic that you are qualified to speak on but isn’t exist on their blog?

Understand the value of your pitch and how to help out. Use this information to create a structured email outreach strategy.

Start by creating a list of websites.

Once you have a true sense of your expertise, it’s time to start to build out your blog outreach list. This should be a simple spreadsheet with five columns: website, name, email address, status etc.

To populate a list of target blogs, take note of the monthly visitors and DA rating for each blog. Aim to target websites with a DA rating of 50+.

Keep in mind that the more the DA, the stronger your partnership potential and SEO impact will be.

Once you have chosen from a list of blogs based on the criteria I mentioned beforehand, it’s time to find the right person to contact.

You could start by using Linkedin.

To filter your search results, use the company page of the website you’re interested in.

From there, look for people by typing in keywords like “content manager,” “SEO Manager,” or “editor.” If you know that person’s name, you can also try typing it in to see if they’re a member of your network

When looking for LinkedIn connections, start with 2nd degree connections. If you don’t know anyone, try to find an intersection point with mutual acquaintances/colleagues.

Make sure to keep your connection message short and sweet too. Your message may get buried if it’s too long or comes off as spammy.

Once you reach out to someone on LinkedIn, use an email tool like to search for their contact information.

Even if you can’t find the contact’s email address, displays a handy template of your email structure, such as . Add this information to  your spreadsheet.

#2. Start Blogging Relationships.

Good relationships with bloggers are pretty important. If you have a list of potential contacts, it may be time to reach out to them using LinkedIn.

Once you’ve contacted 50-100 people, it makes sense to do some email outreach.

You can grow your guest blogging strategy by creating an email template and then sending it to other bloggers with the intention of inviting them to post for you.
